The Cleveland Indians, who may have already delivered the knockout punch to the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central Division race, go for the series sweep on Sunday as the two teams meet in the final game of their three game series. Kinsler said something to Bauer before crossing the plate. But if you can’t command the ball inside, you’ve got to maybe not go inside.
Bauer took the loss, dropping to 11-8 this season. “Would never intentionally throw at someone’s head. That has no place in the game”.
Miguel Cabrera – He reached base four times, including his 2,500th hit. Hanley Ramirez and Bogaerts each had three hits for the AL East-leading Red Sox (84-64), who entered two games ahead of Toronto and Baltimore (both 81-66). Bauer tossed his glove to the ground and crouched behind the mound.
In a four-batter span in the third inning, Bauer hit Ian Kinsler in the head and Victor Martinez in the right knee cap. Martinez was down for several minutes before getting up and limping to first base.
In the third inning, Ian Kinsler got his helmet knocked off by a pitch from Bauer.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he didn’t think Bauer was trying to hit anyone on objective, but didn’t like the results. “I don’t believe that there was any intent on any of them, to be honest with you”. Kinsler has been ejected 10 times in his career.
Although Bauer struggled against Detroit – a loss that reduced Cleveland’s lead over the Tigers to seven games – he’s not feeling any extra responsibility.
Detroit made it 5-2 in the fifth inning.
The Indians answered back with a home run by Carlos Santana off Alex Wilson in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Tigers’ lead to 6-5. Erick Aybar had a two-run single to give Detroit the lead for good.
“I thought Jordan handled it the right way”, said Ausmus. They opened the day with a 5½-game gap and three teams to overtake for a wild-card berth.
Tigers: 3B Nick Castellanos (broken right hand) will face pitchers the next two days in Lakeland, Fla.

Indians: OF Lonnie Chisenhall (strained abdominal muscle) was announced as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning but was removed following a pitching change.
