Indians manager Francona to accompany longtime friend Farrell for cancer treatment

The Red Sox did go on to add one more run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single from Travis Shaw (only bright spot at the plate tonight).

“He’s hitting some quality pitching”, Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo said of Shaw. “It was impressive”.

The 25-year-old Barnes made his first major-league start Monday. “He’s a very special player”. “He’s always had, I would say more than glimpses, but he’s always had the stuff he has, but he’s starting to understand the league and himself”. Farrell was his pitching coach from 2007-2010. The fastball, when it missed, was around the zone. “They’re a really good team and have a lot of really good hitters. I was able to use a changeup, as well”. Starter Danny Salazar gave up four hits including a solo jack over seven frames to get the win.

Carlos Santana also hit a solo home run, and Chisenhall’s two-run double was the highlight of a five-run fourth that lifted Cleveland to its sixth victory in nine games.

His final line of 5 innings pitched, six hits, six runs, three walks and seven strikeouts is less than impressive.

While their professional lives took different turns, the pair stayed close, evidenced by Francona’s choice to accompany his friend in his first step in his battle with cancer. So, he was not trying to passive-aggressively get himself nominated for a MacArthur Fellowship when he relayed how and why it occurred to him to simply head to the hospital with Farrell.

A couple suspect fielding plays, one in right field by Jackie Bradley Jr. and another in left field by Hanley Ramirez, didn’t help matters, but the Indians did enough damage on their own.

He didn’t make the catch, but it was another example of the young outfielder’s potential. “He’s one of my best friends.”… Michael Brantley, who missed the Twins series with a left shoulder issue, could be available to serve as DH. The over is 10-1 in Boston’s last 11 home games and is 8-1 in their last 9 games as a home favorite while going 19-6-1 in their last 26 overall. Cleveland RHP Trevor Bauer will pitch against Boston rookie LHP Eduardo Rodriguez on Tuesday. Barnes made 21 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season before being sent down to Pawtucket and moving back into the rotation.
