Indians notebook: Starting pitcher Nick Green included in Carlos Beltran deal

The Yankees did not only acquire Tate but also two right-handed pitchers in Nick Green and Erik Swanson. But it was Tate’s 2014 stint with USA Baseball college national team that gave the Yankees their best up-close view of what he’s like on the field and in the clubhouse. He’s a pure hired bat, at age 37, but he has impressed this season with 22 homers, 64 RBIs, and a.304/.344/.546 slash line.

Almost two months ago, when it was first reported that New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was considering dealing Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller from his ridiculously loaded bullpen, I wrote about how doing so made a lot of sense for the Bronx Bombers.

I think for starters, you’re not thinking about anything, for one. “I dont blame nobody other than we didnt do our job as players.”.

And with Mark Teixeira’s contract coming off the books and a $5 million buyout option on the final year of CC Sabathia’s deal, the Yankees will have plenty of money freed up to pursue some of the top free agents on the market this offseason.

The Yankees may get an A for this week’s trades, but I fully expect them to receive a D for what they do with those names that are in temporary pinstripes within the next year.

He was traded from Kansas City to Houston in June 2004 and from the New York Mets to San Francisco in July 2011.

So while Lucroy and Beltran might grab the headlines, remember that it was Jeffress that could have the biggest impact on the Rangers’ chase for their first-ever World Series title.

Yet for the first time in a long, it seems like the Yankees don’t consider themselves part of the group, given the All-Star talent they unloaded in prospect-heavy deals over the last week. He has a limited no-trade provision in his contract, but the Rangers were not among the 15 teams he could not be dealt to without his consent. We do see some things that we want to start working with him on, so we’re going to take him out of the rotation and put him in the pen for a period of time. And that may be an understatement, as the Yankees’ farm system went from average to one of the very best in all of baseball.

After getting top prospects Gleybar Torres and Clint Frazier in the deals for Chapman and Miller, the Yankees are obtaining someone who has struggled after being a top-100 prospect this season.

Let’s take a look at the two big trades – Chapman and Miller – in addition to briefly touching on what else the Yankees did. Those deals allows the Yankees to rebuild with young talent like they did 20 years ago with players like Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada.

Jonathan Lucroy wasn’t the only Milwaukee Brewer who is now looking for a place to stay in North Texas.

Over 52 career postseason games, Beltran has batted.332 (61-184) with 16 home runs and 40 RBI. As of noon on August 3rd, Alex Rodriguez remains a Yankee despite making $21 million this season while hitting.204 with nine home runs. The Brewers have a chance to scout some Rangers minor leaguers and will designate a guy, I assume, from a pool at some point.

The Rangers weren’t able to add a starting pitcher, but they brought in Carlos Beltran and Jonothan Lucroy.

All that aside, Daniels and the Rangers were the stars of Monday’s trading deadline. Lucroy is a huge offensive upgrade from Robinson Chirinos. Fans may not care about the team’s profit and loss statement, but if the Yankees down-the-road focus leads to four or five seasons of red ink, it could negatively impact the team’s payroll and Cashman’s ability to sign free agents to “supplement” these highly touted prospects. He likely will be in a setup role for the Rangers behind Sam Dyson. An hour before Monday’s 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline, Cashman had successfully parted ways with four major players and, in the process, ushered in a new era of Yankees baseball.
