Offensively, the Indians took advantage of the Tigers being in a similar position after starting pitcher Shane Greene had to suddenly leave the game in the fourth inning with an injury.

“It was awesome”, said Kluber, who allowed one run on two hits with no walks in eight innings. Detroit has dropped four of its last five.

“But then we didn’t stop”. “We’re letting leads out early in the game and we’re having trouble fighting back”.

All of his pitches were working as he easily dispatched one of the majors’ most potent lineups. He’s struck out 16 and walked five.

“I think the biggest thing today was just fastball command”, he said. “For him to be able to throw 64 pitches and really keep the game right in check is a tribute to him”. We should know over the next few days how bad this injury is, but for the sake of the Cleveland Indians’ organization and their fans, I hope Carrasco can recover quickly.

Tigers: Detroit hosts Oakland on Monday in the opener of a four-game series.

Cleveland ranks near the bottom of the league at 22nd when it comes to home runs, hitting 15 this season. He also had five RBIs against the Los Angeles Angels on August 29 last season. Tomlin allowed one run on four hits over 62/3 innings. He’s eager to return, which may be prompted by the home-run spree backup Jarrod Saltalamacchia is on.

“He had his wedding ring on, which is great – I’m glad he’s happily married – and I personally don’t think he was trying to do anything to doctor the ball, but when he was getting the ball, he was rubbing it up with that hand – with the ring on it”, Ausmus said.

The Tigers have dropped to. As for the Tigers, they’re 5-12 in their last 17 game threes of a series, and 1-8 in Greene’s last nine starts overall.

In 2014, the first season as manager for Ausmus, Detroit started 27-12, but the Tigers followed that up with a 9-20 stretch. 326 (15-for-46) while making several splendid plays in the field as he did in the team’s 3-2 win over the Royals Wednesday.

“It’s a little bit of everything”, Iglesias said. “There’s got to be some middle ground”.

Greene left after walking the first batter of the fourth and Drew VerHagen struggled coming out of the bullpen. Gomes blasted his second home run of the season following singles by Francisco Lindor and Mike Napoli. Cabrera’s lackluster performance was punctuated by a four-strikeout day at the plate while going 1-for-5 in Tuesday’s 8-6 loss to the Royals.
