Indo-Russian relations go beyond politics, trade: PM Modi
The partnership between the Indian firm controlled by billionaire Anil Ambani and the Russian firm was announced as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a trip to Moscow aimed at strengthening defence ties. He recalled that Moscow had “strongly supported India’s accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and that the two countries were actively cooperating within the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), where India will take the rotating presidency in February 2016”.

“The world has accepted what India has been saying on terrorism: an enemy of humanity that needs to be countered via worldwide cooperation”, he stated. “This was a great tragedy and the entire people of India were with Russian Federation during these hard moments”, he said in his joint presser with Putin after the 16th annual summit.
“Russia assists in building several power generating units at the Kudankulam nuclear plant”, he said, recalling that the first unit that was commissioned here in June 2014.
It is expected that both countries will sign a number of defence deals also. Modi also expressed condolence over the death of Russian citizens in a plane crash in Egypt in October. The two nations have a plan envisaging that Russian Federation will build a total of 12 nuclear reactors in India over 20 years. “The agreement today will increase Indian manufacturing contents in these reactors”.
Asserting that India is making attempts to resolve these problems, he said, “results in this direction are now showing up”.
“President Putin gifted me a page from Gandhiji’s diary containing Bapu’s handwritten notes”.
“We have made progress on a number of other defence proposals. We anticipate these projects to be coordinated by next month”, he had said.
The prime minister said he and the Russian president were “moving creatively in expanding our economic relations”. Putin also hosted a private dinner for Modi.
The Joint Statement said the two countries vowed to increase annual bilateral trade and investment and emphasized the need for continued facilitation by both the governments as well as speedy implementation of decisions and liberalization of relevant rules and regulations. There will be an interaction with Russian businesspersons to invite them to invest in India.
“The visit will witness extensive deliberations with President Putin”.
It will be Modi’s second summit with Putin who had travelled to New a year ago for the 15th India-Russia Summit.

Prime Minister Modi, who was addressing the CEO forum, said that Russian Federation would always remain a vital partner of India, not only in energy and mineral resources, but in cutting edge technologies too. And, there is genuine goodwill and mutual respect between our people.
