“He apparently had moved repeatedly to avoid arrest, but he refused to answer all questions about his alleged crimes”, Bali police spokesman Heri Wiyanto said.

“The MPC has been at the forefront demanding justice and helping out the family of J Dey and since the main accused is being brought to India, the case needs to be reinvestigated”, he said.

Claiming that he was “tortured” by the Mumbai Police in the past, Chhota Rajan demanded that he should be taken to New Delhi instead. A special plane has been sent by India to fly back Chhota Rajan.

Rajan is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking.

Based on a tip from interpol, he was stopped and arrested in Bali after landing from a Sydney flight on October 25.

The closed sources said that, “The Indian agencies were keen that the expulsion takes place at the initial and had put in a request to Indonesian authorities on Sunday itself”.

His deportation was delayed for two days when volcanic ash from an eruption of Mount Rinjani forced the closure of Bali’s main global airport.

“Once it has been chose to hand over all cases to the CBI, it is the CBI chief’s decision whether to keep him in Delhi or bring him to Mumbai”, Mr. Bakshi added.

While absconding, he was targeted in a murderous attack in Bangkok, Thailand by Dawood’s henchmen in September 2000, but he managed to escape.
