Ings And Alli Get England Callups

Tottenham Hotspur teenage midfielder, Dele Alli, has been called into England’s squad for the first time for the final two Euro 2016 qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania in October.

“I was speechless”, Alli told Tottenham’s official website.

Sturridge has recently made his comeback after missing most of the previous year through different injuries – the first of which was picked up on global duty 12 months ago.

“It is a decision for him and we need to respect and back the decision and then the supporters can enjoy with him because of the way that he plays”. The snub of Dier will undoubtedly serve to inspire him to even greater Tottenham performances.

Alli took to Twitter to say he was “delighted to have been called up for the England senior team” after the draw in Monaco, as well as expressing his frustration that Spurs did not get three points from their Group J tie.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand is recalled in place of Luke Shaw who broke his leg in two places playing for Manchester United at PSV Eindhoven last month.

After opening his account in the Premier League game against Norwich, he followed that up by scoring the Reds’ opener in the League Cup game against Carlisle.

Despite a stuttering start to the season for Liverpool, Ings has impressed during the brief time he has had on the pitch.

Ings is one of five forwards in the squad with Hodgson having seen the other four – Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and captain Wayne Rooney – all score in the Premier League last weekend.

“The game in Lithuania is the one where, if any experimentation takes place, it’ll be there”, said Hodgson. He said that Aston Villa had turned down a request that Jack Grealish, now having opted to play for England over Ireland, train with the squad for a couple of days at St George’s Park. “I think I have quite a good basis and track record of giving these players a chance and not being let down by them”. He is English, albeit with distant Irish roots. “We could’ve been more clinical, I’m happy with [the] display and effort”.
