Ings hails Allardyce appointment as he plots England return

Allardyce has been labelled with playing direct football during his career, a tag he rejects, but said England players must adapt to playing the styles he wants to ensure they are successful.

Allardyce first applied for the England job a decade ago when he was in charge of Bolton, but the FA went with Steve McClaren.

“The missus made me think about that side of it long and hard but I am going into it with my eyes open”.

Allardyce said man-management was his main attribute. But look at what I’ve achieved over the years, like not being relegated, and they are big achievements, hard to do. “I am relishing the challenge and excited by the opportunity”, Moyes said.

“I choose styles or systems depending on the players available and who we’re playing”. “While my main focus will be on the senior team and getting positive results, I want to add my influence to the great work being done across the development teams at St. George’s Park – a facility I have used with my previous clubs”. “But I’ve worked with world class players: Okocha, Djorkaeff, Anelka, Speed, Owen”. The fourth-most experienced manager in the Premier League, Allardyce has won the Manager of the Month award on six occasions. “I am very proud to be named the new England manager and I look forward to the task in hand and qualify for the World Cup and take it from there”.

The former Sunderland manager increased the hopes of the 33-year-old striker once again forcing his way into the national team set-up, however, as he mentioned him as evidence that his style of play is not as bad as often perceived.

“We all have to face criticism at this level; the level of criticism sometimes is far greater at global level because it’s just a short time together, but also praise is also far greater as well”. “Then we can focus on the in-depth issues”.

He continued: I think that from my point of view what hit me the most was the overwhelming support from all areas over the last few days, the goodwill messages I have had not only from friends in and outside the game but the nation as a whole.

The Black Cats, who tried numerous times to lure Moyes before, are crying out for managerial stability and Short believes Moyes is the man to provide it. “I will leave that (the captaincy) until we get together and plan for the qualifiers”. We can’t change the past.
