Regular Twenty20 captain Malinga sustained the knee injury during the home series against West Indies but was expected to play the two Twenty20 matches that conclude Sri Lanka’s tour of New Zealand.

The stand-in captain scored 59 off 73 balls after winning the toss, with Tom Latham (42) and Mitchell Santner (38) offering solid support.
Williamson hit 59 as the Black Caps, up 2-0 in the five-match series, finished on 276-8 at Saxton Oval. Sri Lanka desperately need Tillakaratne Dilshan to fire at the top, while Angelo Mathews will need to work out a way to counter New Zealand’s tactics of having him repeatedly caught down the legside. They haven’t been able to find the correct line and length and the Kiwi’s have bashed them and throughout this series they have been suffering.
Hesson confirmed that McCullum was “still pretty sore”, and said that it was unlikely the captain would play but refused to rule out his chances completely, Sport24 reported.
“We’ve put the ball in demanding areas and made take some tough decisions”.
New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum, well known for his destructive batting against any team in the world.
Anderson had suffered a stress-related back injury in May, and had only begun playing competitive cricket in November.
“In the field you’ll see us talking to each other just refreshing one another’s memories that you are keeping to the right plan…so we all work together and I think that’s the reason we have been going so well, is that we work as a collective not as individuals”, said McClenaghan.
New Zealand: Brendon McCullum (c), Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, George Worker, Luke Ronchi (wk), Doug Bracewell, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry (first two ODIs), Tim Southee (3rd ODI).

Sri Lanka interim coach Jerome Jayaratne referred to that loss as “humiliating”, per ESPNCricinfo, and things might get even worse. It will also broadcast the 3rd ODI in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
