Injuries: Carson Wentz suffers hairline rib fracture

Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs during Thursday’s preseason game, the team announced on Saturday.

The No. 2 overall pick out of North Dakota State was hurt in Thursday’s preseason opener against Tampa Bay.

Not surprisingly, Wentz saw plenty of negatives to go with some important steps he took in completing 12 of 24 passes for 89 yards.

“We sacked the quarterback, we hit the quarterback…if there’s one thing that really stood out in a positive, I would say it would be our D-line play and that we affected the quarterback”, said Koetter.

“We contested the ball, we were a little over aggressive at time, but I thought we were in position for the most part”, said Koetter of his defensive backfield. Wentz remained face-down on the Lincoln Financial Field grass before getting up to make one more play – an incomplete pass that ended the drive.

But no one can blame them for being excited about the Philadelphia Eagles Carson Wentz that made him a heat seeking riser in the lead up in this years. For the rookie, then, preseason and training camp offered an important opportunity to adjust to the pace of National Football League play.

Near the end of the first half of the Eagles’ preseason opener against Tampa Bay, Philadelphia’s first-year head coach sent Carson Wentz onto the field to run the two-minute offence.

After practice, Wentz went for a CT scan, which showed the fracture. Bradford later said he thought Wentz would score. “I played a lot of snaps at left so naturally I’m more comfortable”.

The Eagles have road preseason games at Pittsburgh on Thursday night and at Indianapolis on August 27 before returning home in the September 1 preseason finale against the New York Jets. That meant the four preseason games, ideally, were going to be the only opportunities for him to get into games. “He’s fine. He’ll get treatment on it and he’ll be back out tomorrow”. “I think everyone is excited about him”. “The guys across from you, they’re big, strong, they’re fast”.

“I think it was the next-to-the-last play of the game he got hit pretty hard on the right side, stayed down on the ground for a while – just sore”, Pederson updated.

The preseason is where you get a good look at the rookies.

“To me it’s just about finishing every play and it’s something I have to do”, he said.
