Injuries pile up, Penn State holds off Temple 34-27
Trace McSorley completed 18 of 24 passes for 287 yards with one touchdown and rushed for another as Penn State’s offense scored on three of its first five drives.

The Nittany Lions took over and, on a second-and-5 play from their own 45, Barkley took a handoff and weaved his way through the left side of the line before a hellacious cut to his right put him in the clear.
Temple opened the year with a 13-28 loss to Army at home and then beat Stoney Brook last week 38-0.
Temple QB Phillip Walker finished 25 for 34 with 286 yards. The score cut Penn State’s lead to just three points at 27-24 with 8:10 remanning in the game. To that point, Barkley struggled to find running room. Temple has shuffled some other players into the backfield but Armstead is the only player with more than 50 rushing yards.
Most Penn State fans probably remember where they were when last year’s campaign began with a disastrous loss to Temple. He also has one interception that ended up costing Penn State the game against Pitt when his pass was picked off in the endzone. As he jogged on the sideline and rode a stationary bike, Penn State turned to young backs Andre Robinson, Mark Allen and Miles Sanders, who combined for 68 yards and a touchdown. Barkley was still able to finish the game with a team-high 68 yards and added his seventh score of the year.
This coming weekend, Penn State will honor the late Joe Paterno and his players before Saturday’s game against Temple University.
But when informed of the abuse in his football program, Paterno responded, “I don’t want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about”, according to a recently released deposition of “John Doe 150”, one of the 32 persons who Penn State paid to settle the Sandusky litigation. Outside of Penn State, Paterno is a awful person who ignored many signs that his defensive coordinator was a child abuser.
There’s no good reason wins stripped from Paterno as part of Penn State’s punishment for the crimes committed by a pedophile on its campus were returned. Maybe that comparison is a little exaggerated, but mentioning Paterno’s name is still a great way to bring out strong opinions and controversy in the media.
In front of an unusually empty Rec Hall, Penn State took its second match of the Penn State Invitational in a win against Howard.
The university removed Paterno’s bronze statue from outside the stadium and board leaders have been reluctant to formerly honor him with charges of child endangerment and failure to report abuse still pending against former Penn State president Graham B. Spanier and two other administrators.
Sandusky coached on Paterno’s staff for three decades until 1999.
The highlight videos focused on the academic achievements of Paterno’s former players and his “Grand Experiment”. Temple is a run-first team, and with Jahad Thomas out the run game is struggling, putting more pressure on Walker.

After dropping a rivalry renewal against Pitt in disappointing fashion, the Nittany Lions will try for their first win against an in-state team since 2014 when Tempe visits Beaver Stadium on Saturday.
