Injury hit Steelers without RB Williams for wild card game

Saturday’s game figures to be a tough, physical affair against a divisional rival with a strong defense, and the ability of unheralded players like Toussaint and Todman to contribute and keep the Bengals honest could potentially be the biggest key to the contest.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Cincinnati Bengals without DeAngelo Williams.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams has been officially ruled out for Saturday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals because of an injury to his right foot. He rushed for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding an additional dimension with 313 receiving yards on 33 catches.

“I have to be ready to take on the task”, said Toussaint, who carried the ball 18 times for 42 yards in the regular season.

That’s also what the Steelers hope he plans to do on Saturday against the Bengals. The Steelers fell 30-17, as they were never able to get any type of a running game going. Coach Marvin Lewis is 0-6, tied with Jim Mora for most consecutive playoff losses to start a career.

On Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin clarified that Williams had suffered a foot injury. History is against him: No quarterback with so little National Football League starting experience has won a playoff game since Gifford Nielsen led the Houston Oilers over the Chargers in the 1979 season. In his three starts, Bengals went 2-1 and McCarron was 54-of-83 for 552 yards with four TDs, no INTs, one fumble and passer rating of 100.1.

Now, there is more pressure on the passing offense to step up, so expect a heavy dose of Antonio Brown in this one, one way or another.

Toussaint spent the first 10 weeks of the season on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster when Le’Veon Bell (Michigan State) was lost for the season with a knee injury. “Whether Andy is the backup or where he is, we’ll know down the line”.
