Inside Apple’s iPhone 7: Tech secrets revealed
It seems like the problem is mostly affecting the iPhone 7 Plus models – and in particular when devices are being restored from new.

Another problem that people have reported is that when they turn on the airplane mode and later turn it off, the phone still doesn’t get any signal.
Like most computers, there is apparently no fix for a hissing-under-load iPhone 7.
However, some early adopters who managed to secure Apple’s newest handsets are reporting issues that may be affecting more than a handful of units.
That’s exactly what happened to a bunch of pissed off YouTube users when some guy literally drilled a headphone jack into his new iPhone 7. Engadget theorized that it could be a “coil whine” and is likely a small manufacturing defect instead of an overall design flaw. It seems that some of the Plus-sized phones put out an audible hissing sound while being used – a fact which, unsurprisingly, hasn’t gone over so well with those who managed to score one of the sought-after iPhones.
Hackett said AppleCare told him to visit an Apple Store to get the phone replaced – suggesting it could genuinely be a manufacturing error. This year, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have been equipped with Intel modem for the AT&T and T-Mobile SKU. As it seems that the hissing sound is the only odd phenomena, it is uncertain specifically what is causing the iPhone 7 Plus to produce a hissing sound or what it could affect, as Hackett did not report any other problems like heat.
The iPhone 7 is the new kid on the block and Apple needs to stay true to its name.

As demonstrated in the video below, an iPhone 7 is shown to lose its LTE signal after toggling Airplane Mode. If you are anxious – particularly about the latter issue – just avoid putting your iPhone 7 in Airplane Mode for now, and manually switch off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as needed, instead. And the new iPhone’s noise was no different in kind or volume than other similar devices, it said. Our testing has been admittedly limited, given that the device only came out three days ago, but we only experienced it twice; once during an iCloud restore and once during a factory reset.
