Following the two-run dinger by catcher Russell Martin, Indians starter Trevor Bauer was able to lock in, shutting down the team from Canada for the rest of what became a highlight outing thus far in his career.
Cleveland Indians centerfielder Tyler Naquin hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run in Friday’s 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Doing little offensively for much of the game and trailing by a run with Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna on the mound, Jose Ramirez tied the game with a one-out solo home run to right field.
Osuna also gave up a tying homer to Jose Ramirez on Friday, but retired the switch-hitter on a fly ball.
Naquin followed with a drive that hit the top of the right-field wall, above the leap of Michael Saunders. The ball bounced away at an angle and center fielder Melvin Upton Jr. gave chase as Naquin rounded second.
Second baseman Devon Travis retrieved it as Naquin was racing around third, but his throw was well late to the plate.
A day after lifting the Tribe with a walk-off sacrifice fly, Cleveland rookie Tyler Naquin played the hero again by giving the Indians an incredible walk-off win in one of the rarest ways possible.
With a ninth-inning homer from Jedd Gyorko, the Cardinals tied the Major League Baseball record for consecutive multi-homer games at nine. It was his third blown save in 30 opportunities this season.
The first-place Indians won for the eighth time in 11 games, upping their lead in the Central Division standings to seven games over second-place Detroit.
Mike Napoli hit an RBI single in the sixth for Cleveland.
RED SOX 10, TIGERS 2 David Ortiz hit a home run and Rick Porcello returned to Comerica Park with seven strong innings as visiting Boston routed Detroit.
The Kansas City Royals overcame the Minnesota Twins 5-4, the Chicago Cubs went down 7-6 to the Colorado Rockies in a marathon, while the San Diego Padres needed 10 innings to see off the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-4.
The Blue Jays (70-53) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Sanchez didn’t allow a hit through three innings, but he gave up five runs in the fourth and didn’t come out for the fifth.
“It was a heck of a game, both sides”, Cleveland manager Terry Francona said.

Yankees 7, Angels 0: The Yankees hit four solo home runs and Masahiro Tanaka allowed five hits in 7 2/3 innings as NY continued its mastery over sinking Los Angeles. He’ll look to put together a quality start against Chad Kuhl (3-0, 3.73) and the Bucs. Toronto 3B Josh Donaldson is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday after missing two games with a jammed thumb.2.
