Detectives are still trying to figure out how 12 underaged girls ended up living in Lee Kaplan’s suburban Philadelphia home, who was busted for sexual assault with a minor on June 16.

Savilla Stoltzfus, 42, of Quarryville, Lancaster County, was arrested last week along with her husband, Daniel Stoltzfus, on charges of child endangement.

Kaplan was charged with statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor, according to a police criminal complaint filed in Bucks County.

Police also arrested the 18-year-old girl’s parents, Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus.

Family members of the Stoltzfuses told PennLive that Kaplan may have brainwashed the couple, noting drastic changes in Daniel Stoltzfus’s beliefs and behavior after he first met Kaplan at an Erie equipment sale in 2003.

Mr Stoltzfus was charged with conspiracy of statutory sexual assault and endangering children. The Stoltzfus parents remain in jail charged with child endangerment. “I just knew. There was no reason why this older, significantly older man, any man, regardless of what they look like, would have this amount of children, all in blue dresses, never outside the house regularly, looking so scared”, she said. “I knew he was insane”, Brendan Cragg, who’d be delivering packages in the neighborhood for 10 years, told NBC Philadelphia.

Kaplan fathered two children with the teenage girl whose family gave her to him, a criminal complaint alleges.

According to police affidavits, Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus “came to an agreement” to give Kaplan their daughter after Daniel Stoltzfus “researched the legality of it on the Internet”, the affidavit says.

At some point during or after the 2009 lawsuit, police say Kaplan intervened, saving the Stoltzfuses from financial ruin. Savilla Stoltzfus’ attorneys are not representing her husband.

Two of the suspects in the case are the children’s own parents. In the meantime, investigations are ongoing, and information is being gathered.
