Inspiring teen model with Down syndrome earns 2 clothing campaigns
What do you think of Madeline and her way of changing perceptions about Down syndrome? Now the Australia native is set to walk in New York Fashion Week on September 13.

Madeline will be modeling clothes for FTL Moda.
But the coveted modelling gig is an even bigger deal for Stuart, who has Down syndrome. “I would just like people to accept, love, and show kindness”, Madeline wrote on her Facebook page. I think that’s why she’s done so well, is because this isn’t about us. “I hope that doesn’t sound too pretentious”. Now, the brand is teaming up with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to show that “fashion is free from confines”.
Actress Jamie Brewer of “American Horror Story”, modeled for designer Carrie Hammer in February and was the first model with Down syndrome to participate in New York Fashion Week.
Stuart has also signed a modelling contract with American fitness-wear brand Manifesta and was made the face of a new handbag collection from everMaya.
As for Madeline’s mom?
“The world wants to be inclusive, it just hasn’t had anyone on such a platform that they were able to do it easily”, Roseanne said.
Although Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder-roughly one child is born with Down syndrome for every 1,000 births worldwide-recent studies have demonstrated that ignorance and intolerance toward people with intellectual disabilities remains rampant.
Roseanne added: “There hadn’t been anyone who chased this dream, whereas Madeline really chased it. She wanted this and she worked hard for it”.
Though she’s on her way to model at one of the most important fashion events of the year, the 18-year-old is just your average teen when she’s not working.

Stuart is hoping her exposure will change some opinions about the diseases and other disabilities, by creating awareness and inclusion.
