Instagram Has Over 400 Million Monthly Active Users

In a statement, Instagram noted most of its recent growth has been because of global users, with more than 75% of the app’s users living outside of the U.S.

In the time since Instagram last gave an update about the size of its user base, several celebrities have joined the service, including David Beckham and Caitlyn Jenner.

Instagram will celebrate its fifth anniversary on October. 6, but it’s already popping the champagne – the popular photo app now has 400 million users.

The photo-and-video-sharing app reached 300 million users last December. The countries that added the most new users included Brazil, Japan and Indonesia, Instagram said.

“When Instagram launched almost five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream”, wrote the company in a blog post.

It’s a pretty impressive milestone for the Facebook-owned company, proving it’s still enjoying very consistent growth in its fifth year of existence.

Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for US$1 billion (NZ$1.6m) and has been slow to monetise the app. “Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram – helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions”.
