Instagram users are now sharing upwards of 80 million photos a day, the messaging service owned by Facebook said. Following the news that Instagram had surpassed Twitter in user numbers, the Twitter board member said, “I frankly don’t give a shit if Instagram has more people looking at pretty pictures”.
Instagram is growing faster than many of its social app competitors, including Twitter and Snapchat.
Instagram, which Facebook acquired for $1 billion in April 2012, is particularly strong internationally, with 75% of its users living outside of the USA , according to the blog post.
In 2013, it began with a small number of “sponsored” posts by well-known brands such as Michael Kors and Adidas. The app was a key part of the recent New York Fashion Week, for example, and Disney used it to debut a new teaser video for its upcoming film, “Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens”. At the beginning of this month, Instagram advertised in eight countries.
