Instagram is testing a “Save Draft” feature

The app is now testing a new drafts feature that allows you to save your progress mid-post – edits and all – to finish later. Much like Twitter (or any other social platform, really), Instagram‘s Save Draft would let you prepare posts and publish later on.

The feature, which is now being tested with an unknown number of users, presents itself when you back out of a screen after editing. If you have it, however, you’ll see the option to save your work when you hit the “Back” button. Most of the time, you’re probably going to take a photo, edit it, and post it without issue, but sometimes you may start to create an Instagram post but then decide to come back to it later.

This means that users would have to go through the editing process again and try to achieve what they have edited before accidentally discarding the changes. We confirmed with the company that “Save Draft” is just an experiment for the time being, unfortunately.

That being said, given that literally every single tweet about this feature’s arrival is filled with joyous praise, it’s hard to imagine that Instagram won’t choose to take this option to the public in the future.

A user has complained that he already got the feature, but it disappeared.

There’s been no official word from the Facebook-owned company about the new option to save drafts, with a spokesperson only able to trot out the oft-used “we’re always testing new ways to improve the Instagram experience” phrase in response to an inquiry from TechCrunch on Tuesday. The horror! That indicates Instagram was running A/B testing, rather than something that was being rolled out to the public in stages.
