Instagram’s latest feature looks a lot like Snapchat

Instagram today introduced Instagram Stories, which lets users and brands post photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.

It really just comes down to user preference: Instagram Stories or Snapchat? Tap once to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another user’s story.

Some users are calling Instagram out on social media for being a copycat. Moreover, they aren’t features on the user’s profile grid or feed.

If a user’s account is private, their story is visible only to their friends. To make it totally clear, Instagram is calling its product Stories too.

Instagram has launched a new feature called Instagram Stories. You can even hide the story from specific contacts, even if they already follow you. In fact, other than a few minor tweaks to Instagram’s, the features are nearly exactly the same. However, the Facebook-owned company gave the due credit to the pioneer of “Stories”.

“If you spend a day doing something, you may have a bunch of pictures you want to share, but you don’t want to ‘overgram.’ So you only post one or two pictures and you feel sad you didn’t post more”, he told TechNewsWorld. Instagram is incredible at applying creative filters and sharing those “in the moment” photos with your friends. Sounds a lot like Snapchat, right? And in case you’re thinking, “Oh, this is just a coincidence!”, you can doodle on the images, add texts and emojis, and watch who is viewing your story.

While ads will not initially appear within Instagram Stories, advertising and other “business opportunities” will be added in the future, an Instagram spokeswoman says.

The photos and videos will only remain on Instagram for 24 hours, after which they will disappear. That’s not great for Instagram, and this behavior encourages the idea that Snapchat is the place where users can be themselves without the same kind of pressure. So much of what we love to see is the behind-the-scenes peek into the process-that eyeliner trick is way more useful when you can see it in action.
