Instagram Stories Channels Snapchat with New Update

The push to get folks to share photo and video isn’t surprising-Facebook is doubling down on visual media including Live Video, 360 video, and serial storytelling through Instagram Stories (another Snapchat copycat).

Like Snapchat Stories, Instagram Stories have an expiration date; they go away after 24 hours. It also has 250 million people using its Direct message feature, but it wants to renew its focus on content and original sharing, as its figures were reportedly down by 15 per cent in this regard during the first few months of 2016.

Will Instagram Stories draw some of the young Snapchatters to their platform, or will it legitimize Snapchat driving an older demographic to the millennial juggernaut? In order to notify the user about the existence of a new story, Instagram will add a colorful ring to the profile photo of the story teller.

How does the latest Instagram update work? But unlike the rest of your posts on Instagram you can select who can see the story. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: “your story”, says the brand about Instagram Stories, in its blog.

And, get this: The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in your feed.

It’s one of several changes coming to Instagram. It’s unclear whether it would only use it for its new Stories feature, or whether users would be able to do silly things like superimposing animal heads over their faces when shooting normal Instagram videos or pictures. Business Insider mentioned that Facebook is blatantly copying Snapchat.

Instagram’s daily-user numbers (300m) are double that of Snapchat, though they are each eyeing up their rivals’ slice of the pie.

Another Snapchat employee, Tobias McGuigan opted for a more sarcastic approach to Instagram’s new announcement, instead congratulating Instagram on their innovation.

It may help the company keep a step ahead of consumers, who tend to lose interest in once-popular apps as newer, more innovative options emerge.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has acknowledged the feature’s striking resemblance to one on Snapchat. So much of what we love to see is the behind-the-scenes peek into the process-that eyeliner trick is way more useful when you can see it in action.
