Instagram takes on Snapchat with linked ‘Stories’
A user’s story will live for 24 hours before being permanently deleted, and won’t appear on your profile or news feed, but instead will be positioned in a new bar at the top of your news feed.

Aside from the obvious reasons behind the move, Instagram noted in a blog post that it hopes the new feature will increase engagement and motivate users to post more often.
Showing no creativity/shame in its branding, “Instagram Stories” will allow users to create slideshows separate from their main feed, which disappear after 24 hours, Digital Spy said.
The latest feature from Instagram will look very familiar to users of the hot social app Snapchat.
When you post a photo or a video on your story, that’s it.
Interestingly, unlike Snapchat, these Stories can be saved and posted to Instagram too, so if you managed to snap a really good Story, you can quickly keep it forever in your feed.
Interestingly, Stories doesn’t have likes or comments enabled, which might be a Godsend for popular celebrities on Instagram who just want to share their photos without having to deal with an avalanche of sometimes hostile feedback.
Instagram has said it will be rolling out Instagram Stories on iOS and Android globally over the coming weeks.
But Instagram ignores the similarity of Stories with Snapchat: Both allow users to take pictures or video and edit them with drawing and text tools. Facebook has now declared a war on Snapchat with Instagram Stories. Unlike public posts, however, there is no functionality to add reactions or comments, but you can send a direct message to the poster.
You will be able to see how many people have viewed your story, by swiping up on the screen.
Like Snapchat, you can also view a list of people who watched your story by swiping up.

Usual privacy settings apply to stories so users can ensure only their followers see content if they wish. Users would then be able to share their Story by clicking on the share button.
