Instagram user base surges to 500 million
Instagram announced that it has topped 500 million monthly active users and 300 million daily active users, more than doubling in size over the past two years. Instagram says that over 95 million photos and video are shared on the app daily, garnering over 4.2 billion likes from its users.

Still, despite the global growth, Instagram is expected to draw 85 percent of its revenue from the United States this year, according to eMarketer. Instagram added that 300 million people used the app every day. Facebook itself has 1.59 billion monthly active users. At 400 million users there were 80 million posts a day. It recently extended the time limit of video ads to 60 seconds, and introduced video carousel ads, making use of Facebook’s knowledge base in user data and advertisements for dynamic retargeting. Impressively, this isn’t far behind Facebook’s engagement rate of 65%. But this wasn’t the sentiment in the media when the social network acquired the photo-sharing app in 2012 for $1 billion.
However, the time has come for Instagram to be considered as more than just a bystander in the social networking showdown.
The Instagram Business Tools suite allows firms to set up business profiles on Instagram so that they are recognised as commercial entities that people can contact, as well as gain information on their followers and the posts that resonate most with them.
