Starting with its Genesis, Millennium and Chronos gaming desktops, Origin has introduced Intel’s new Core i5-6600k and Core i7-6700k CPUs – the latter of which supports overclocking up to 4.8GHz.
Skipping over Broadwell, Intel has decided to go straight into its 6th generation Skylake processors for desktops. Outside of that difference, its specs look broadly similar to the i7, with both offering compatibility with two-channel DDR4/DDR3L memory and Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0.
The new chips are aimed at PC gamers who want to coax the fastest possible performance from their machines. This sliding scale should be of great interest to anyone still running a Sandy Bridge CPU – the i5-2500K has aged terrifically and can still hold its own today, but Skylake might finally be the chip to encourage these people to upgrade.
All MAINGEAR gaming PCs now can utilize the Intel 6th Generation Core processors.
In addition, images depicting the retail packaging for the Skylake Core i7-6700K and i5-6600K have also been leaked online via Benchlife (pictured below). As you’ll see on the pages ahead, this new platform offers a potent combination of performance an efficiency. As such you’re getting the die-shrink of Broadwell and the new design of Skylake, which should add up to a decent leap in performance/power saving over Haswell.
Graphics Overclocking Enabled (with Intel Z170 chipset): Unlocked graphics multiplier allows for overclocking to boost the graphics clock speed. Z170 also enables a bunch of new PCI-Express lanes which mean PCs We’ll get into more detail on those and Z170 itself in a post tomorrow, so stay tuned.
Chinese site TechBang published the results as part of what purports to be the first full review of a Skylake CPU – in this case, the Core i7-6700K. The law turned 50 earlier this year, and Intel said that the best is yet to come, and that the law will become more relevant in the next two decades as everyday objects become smaller, smarter and connected. There are plenty more new CPUs on the way in the sixth generation of Intel’s Core, but at least for a few weeks – maybe until the Intel Developer Forum in the middle of this month – you’ll have to be content with these high-end variants. The new Luxe series features the In-Win S-Frame aluminum chassis with tempered glass side panels.

15/05/15: A product roadmap has been leaked to WCCF Tech that shows the launch schedule of a number of next generation processors from Intel. In the third quarter, Skylake, which is the chip company’s 6th gen core processor and supports 100-series motherboards. (Note, though, that this feature is only available on the Core i7.). Also, combined with their new motherboard chipsets, they’ll support more features right out the box, such as Thunderbolt 3 and DDR4 memory.
