“I want much more, especially in the first half”, he told Sky Sport Italia. “We were too slow and didn’t create any spaces”.

They travelled to Bologna on the back of a disappointing draw against Palermo on Saturday and Mancini made six changes.

Bologna were unbeaten in three meetings with Inter but could not find an equaliser against the 10 men, who had drawn their three previous matches. After just four minutes Amadou Diawara’s long ball was just beyond Anthony Mounier at full stretch after the offside trap failed.

Felipe Melo had to walk after Rizzo nutmegged him and the Brazilian, booked for fouling Giaccherini in the first half, was shown a second yellow card for blocking the Bologna player. Ferrari’s fresh-air clearance allowed a long Brozovic ball through to Ljajic, who rolled across for unmarked Icardi to side-foot into an empty net from 10 yards. This win lifted them above Carpi and off of the foot of Serie A.

Mancini was dismissed for dissent in the last minute as he continued protesting about Melo’s sending off.

“I would have preferred him to score from that start, but knowing the history of strikers this can happen”, Mancini said as per Forza Italian Football.

After going down to 10 men, Inter actually took the lead thanks also to a few suicidal defending from bottom of the table Bologna.
