Roberto Mancini took over the reigns of Inter Milan for a second spell in 2014 with expectations of the club regaining back their lost glory which they had in earlier years.

Inter came fourth in Serie A last season, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the fifth consecutive year.

Mancini left his post on Monday amid widespread reports of a falling-out with the club’s new owners, Suning Holdings Group, and the lack of activity in the transfer window so far.

The Nerazzurri’s Chinese owners have chose to wield the axe following the club’s heavy 6-1 defeat against Tottenham in a pre-season friendly in Oslo.

Mancini has been coach for two years and is under contract until 2017.

Inter Milan, the club for whom Japan defender Yuto Nagatomo plays, has terminated its contract with manager Roberto Mancini by mutual consent, the Italian Serie A side announced Monday.

“I wish to thank the Nerazzurri fans, who always backed me up with passion and loyalty, and the players, who have been splendid and impeccable professionals over these 20 months”.

The former Ajax manager quickly emerged as the favourite to take the reins and the former Ajax boss’s arrival has now been confirmed.

Frank De Boer’s name has been mentioned on a number of occasions in the Inter camp.
