Officers have found e-mails from Mr Bach to another senior International Olympic Committee official Patrick Hickey, who was arrested last month and is facing charges.

Mr Hickey, who temporarily stood down as President of the Olympic Council of Ireland following his arrest on August 17, and THG director Mr Mallon have been ordered to appear at the headquarters of the Juvenile Court on the 20th of each month and “justify their activities”.

Detective Aloysio Falcao told local media he found a July 2015 text from Hickey to Bach requesting more seats for the most popular events, including the opening and closing ceremonies, and the finals of the football, basketball and 100-metre sprint.

Prosecutors said the International Olympic Committee has not so far assisted them with the investigation, despite the International Olympic Committee saying that it is cooperating.

Both Mr Evans and Mr Gilmore have been charged by the public prosecutor with Mr Hickey and are being sought by Brazilian police. “If we do not hear from him here in Brazil we can send a letter to request that he testify overseas”.

It’s unclear if Bach will go to Brazil for any of the Paralympics, which last until September 18.

The 10 defendants – including Mallon and Hickey – are charged with criminal organisation, ticket touting, ambush marketing, larceny, money laundering, and tax evasion.

In an Independent article headlined ‘How did Pat Hickey become the most hated man in Irish sport?’ Irish sports journalist Paul Kimmage said there was not one single expression of support for Hickey, at least not any that he had seen. They have accused PRO10 of funneling tickets to THG Sports which sold them illegally at inflated prices.

Police investigators said the scheme was planned to bring in US$3 million (NZ$4.06m).

By August 16th an email from a Dublin solicitor to Mr Hickey and the man who would become acting OCI president after his arrest, William O’Brien, contained a draft letter to Mr Marcus saying that in light of the controversy in Brazil it was suspending the agreement between the OCI and THG for PyeongChang. He faces the same charges and must remain in Brazil.
