International Women’s Day March 8 – theme is #PledgeForParity
The Female Lawyers Association of The Gambia (FLAG) has called upon everyone, both men and women, to pledge to Step It Up by taking a concrete step towards meeting our goal of gender equality more quickly. And, to support us achieving the most impact possible, our new Women’s Empowerment Index is created to measure progress in the multi-dimensional aspects of women’s empowerment, which will better inform and improve our programs that target empowering women.

Nigeria ratified the Convention in 1985, but as with many of other global treaties that Nigeria has ratified over the years, the country has not taken consistent steps to ensure that it meets its obligations under the Convention. As leaders, as parents, as community members, upholding women’s rights should be – and must be – a priority for us all.
