Palm Bay Police and Fire Department crews are on scene along with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Star Helicopter and Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The older, military-style helicopter was reportedly fully engulfed in flames, on the ground, when it was located, floridatoday.com reported.

The blaze was contained within 10 minutes and all that was left was a pile of twisted metal.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m., about ten miles southwest of the Melbourne International Airport.

“They actually go out and do maneuvers out there all the time, and sometimes, they do night ones”.

Officials say a large black column of smoke was seen in the area. The registered owner of the aircraft is EP Aviation LLC, based out of Wood Dale, Illinois.
