Investigators piece together timeline on NY, NJ bombings

Maybe it was because the now dead suspect was yelling the name of Allah as he did the deed and asking potential victims if they were Muslim.

A criminal complaint was unsealed Tuesday in Newark, New Jersey, shortly after a virtually identical filing was unsealed in NY. “We have no reason to believe they’re connected”.

What Mrs. Rahami knew about her husband’s activities in the period leading up to the attacks is a key area of interest for counterterrorism investigators, who are also intensely focused on what his family and close friends in New Jersey saw or heard him doing in the weeks and days before the attacks, according to officials.

He has been charged with wounding 31 people in a Saturday night bombing in NY that investigators regard as terrorism.

This pressure cooker bomb didn’t explode.

Surveillance video shows Rahami rolling a suitcase down the street, then abandoning it on the pavement at the spot where the pressure cooker device was found. That, the prosecutors argued, means that he does not yet have a right to a prompt appearance in federal court and the provision of a lawyer there.

Investigators still haven’t been able to question a man charged with setting off bombs in NY and New Jersey because he’s too severely injured from his shootout with police, a law enforcement official said Thursday as the man’s father said he’d warned federal authorities about the man’s interest in jihadist material. “Whether there are federal authorities questioning defendant does not address the issue of custody”.

There is no indication about how much further she’ll be questioned.

Rahami was injured by police after a shootout in Linden hours after he was named the suspect in Saturday’s bombings. He has been charged with a litany of crimes related to the bombings, in addition to attempted murder charges for allegedly opening fire on police before he was captured.

“My family and I were deeply shocked and appalled at the recent incidents involving the explosions in NY and New Jersey, and our thoughts and prayers are with all who were affected”, Mena said.

When Ahmad Rahami was arrested, prosecutors said he was carrying a journal that praised Osama bin Laden and other Muslim extremists, fumed about what he saw as the USA government’s killing of Muslim holy warriors and declared, “Death to your oppression”.

She said Rahami reached out to them one time in the past year.

The official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly, also said Rahami had married a Pakistani woman and brought her to the United States as his wife. One of the officials said the wife made a statement to authorities after walking into the U.S. Embassy in the United Arab Emirates. She since has been questioned by US investigators, and a USA official described her as being “cooperative”.
