The East Towne Mall in Madison was shut down after the shooting broke out just before 3 p.m. on the Saturday before Christmas.

East Towne Mall said on its website that the mall was “temporarily closed due to a safety concern”.

Eye witnesses said couple of young men were seen in a dispute in the heart of the mall at the intersects of two major wings. At least one shot was sacked.

The 19-year-old has been hospitalized and is being treated for a non-life-threatening wound, according to a statement from the Madison Police Department.

One person was shot in the leg and has non-life threatening injuries.

Armed police have been seen running through the mall while stores were on lockdown and shoppers were evacuated. “This is not an act of terrorism”, DeSpain said.

“My understanding is it was a chaotic scene”, he said, adding that thousands of people tried to flee the area.

“It lasted like 3-4 seconds until the gun went off”, he wrote, adding that “they all ran” afterwards.
