IOS 8.4 Update Includes Major Bug Fixes, New Music App | TechBeat

The feature is meant to provide offline caching and remote streaming of an uploaded iTunes library. “We love music, and the new Apple Music service puts an incredible experience at every fan’s fingertips”, Apple’s senior vice-president of Internet software and services, Eddy Cue, was quoted as saying in the press note. Everything loaded fast and worked properly, I can say that the Apple Music app itself needs a bit of work in the usage department. I would try to think up some of those albums and get Siri to play them as soon as they came to mind. It just didn’t save everything I told it to, and would often seem to change some of the processes for actually saving music on my phone. Last week, Apple disabled this feature for music in iOS 8.4, which is the same update that enables the new Apple Music streaming service. Afterwards, a single user will be charged $9.99 per month while a family package of up to six people is at a discounted price, at only $14.99 monthly. Tweets indicate their dislike at Apple forcibly following unwanted artists on the Music service. So much so that there is now Apple Music. Not only did it suggest old favorites, it highlighted albums that I don’t personally own from artists that I like including the Pixies and John Lee Hooker. The homegrown music streaming app is getting bigger in terms of music catalogue and user base.

A week ago, when Apple Music launched, I enjoyed my initial experience but couldn’t stop a fixation on one specific aspect that I thought would never allow me to switch from Spotify.

I was impressed by Apple Music’s recommendations. Recent analysis by IHS indicates that if 10% of iPhone users were to subscribe to Apple Music, it would rival Spotify to be the world’s largest on-demand subscription service at the end of 2015. Then, hop on over to the My Music tab at the top of the iTunes window and click through. I wasn’t expecting any issues, since the operating system was already being tested by iOS developers before release. Whether Apple Music continues to exist after that is anyone’s guess.

And what does it not do as well as the competition? Sure, it’s annoying and will turn a lot of people off, but it’s the gateway to the menu issue that will drive you absolutely ballistic. There’s no Android version of the app, although one is coming, reportedly by this fall. It also redesigned the music player and tweaked the iTunes Store.

It also comes down to personal preference.

For whom: Those already integrated into the Apple brand, looking for a streaming service that explores new features while simultaneously keeping listeners in their musical comfort zone.
