Iowa gears up to stop Stanford’s McCaffrey in Rose Bowl
He backed that performance up with five tackles in Stanford’s 41-22 win over USC in the Pac-12 championship game. Their biggest win of the season came in the seventh week of the season when they took on the then ranked 20th Northwestern Wildcats on the road.

A nose-to-the-grindstone approach greeted Stanford players as they prepared, an effort that was greeted with a thud in the season opener against Northwestern at Ryan Field. For both Iowa and Stanford, each team was a play or two from potentially making the College Football Playoff.
The two teams dined separately at he restaurant, which is known for “The Prime Rib;” Iowa on Sunday, December 27, and Stanford on Monday, December 28. I believe what Iowa will want to do on offense aligns with what they should do on offense against a Stanford defense that may not hold up at the point of attack.
That success started with a loss.
And all Iowa visitors – as is the case every day throughout the year – will be admitted free for ship tours.
Iowa went 8-0 in the Big Ten and 12-1 overall. The Iowa coach’s 10-year, $35 million contract signed after the 2009 season is the stuff of blogosphere legend and fodder for seemingly annual buyout conversations. He is fourth in the Big Ten in pass efficiency (139.6). Tevaun Smith averages 49.6 yards per game and 18.2 yards per catch.
The Hawkeyes might counteract the Cardinal’s ground game with a run-stuffing front seven that allowed more than 5 yards per rush attempt in just one game this season (against Indiana). The Hawkeyes, on the other hand, went undefeated before narrowly losing to Michigan St.in the BIG 10 championship game.

Stanford has, with OR, become the Joneses of the new Pac-12, one that is still waiting for UCLA and USC to get their acts together.
“It’s probably a better feeling that you’re a fifth-year senior because you appreciate it more”, defensive back Ronnie Harris said. Stanford’s defense gave up nearly a touchdown more per game against pro-style offenses. Clemson’s Dabo Swinney was named The Associated Press coach of the year. McCaffrey is the Cardinal’s do-everything standout, having also earned the Paul Hornung Award as the most versatile player in major college football. McCaffrey, who has a FBS record 3,496 all-purpose yards, is critical to helping the Cardinal wear down defenses. Not to mention three touchdowns – one rushing, one receiving, and one passing (yes, one passing).
Kevin Hogan may not be the first quarterback taken in the National Football League draft in late April, though if leadership and winning are of any importance, he’d have a star hanging by his name. But quarterback Kevin Hogan is also a threat with his strong arm, throwing for 2,644 yards with a almost 70% pass completion with his main target being his tailback. His ability to carry a feature back’s load (25 carries per game) and roast linebackers as the offense’s No. 3 receiver (11.2 yards per target) contradicts itself – he’s fast for such a load carrier.
In practice, 5-foot-9 scout-team freshman Eric Graham is playing the role of McCaffrey for the Iowa defense.
Faced with the most vexing issue of Ferentz’s tenure, the Hawkeyes responded with Akrum Wadley rushing for 204 yards and four touchdowns to pace a 40-10 rout.
This has been a blessed season in Iowa City.

“It’s such a historic bowl, and I can’t imagine there’s a better environment in America to play college football”, said Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, who finally led the Hawkeyes to the Rose Bowl after 17 years as head coach.
