Iowa poll: Ted Cruz leads Donald Trump

His message to the Republican establishment: “I’m sorry I did this to you, but you’ve got to get used to it. It’s one of the problems in life”.

A Monmouth University poll on Monday was the first to show Cruz as the front-runner in Iowa, whose February 1 caucuses are the first contest of the nominating season. As terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif., heightened attention to national security in the past month, Carson has stumbled on foreign policy questions, and critics have raised doubts about his mastery of worldwide affairs. “Somebody taped that conversation”.

Despite Trump remaining at the top of the heap in Iowa, 30 percent of those polled by Fox News said they would never support Trump for president. “I was against going into Iraq”. You can’t walk into the Senate, and scream, and call people liars, and not be able to cajole and get along with people.

Wallace had tried to discuss Trump’s high unfavorable ratings among women, black and Hispanic voters in a recent poll, but the billionaire businessman cut him off.

In a Republican primary – particularly one in which the GOP electorate is mad at everyone (including those in their own party) for an alleged lack of commitment to conservative principles – being the guy all the way on the ideological right is a very, very good thing.

LESSER/EPA Texas Senator Ted Cruz is suddenly leading in an Iowa poll. He wrote some relatively mild tweets in response to Cruz’s remarks last week but is now turning on his rival.

“I’ve been hearing about these closed-door meetings, and I don’t like that, that wasn’t the deal I made”, Trump told CNN.

Trump said his professional success proves that he has “great” judgment. And, tonally, Cruz comes across as aggressively and unapologetically conservative – a less controversial and more electable version of real estate magnate Trump.

Trump also focused on Cruz. “Having a strong temperament is good”.

“You know, it’s a very different kind of experience”, he said.

“It’s still probably the case that Sanders’ best chance to make the Democratic nomination process competitive is to win in Iowa and then carry New Hampshire”, says Shaw.

Trump told Tapper that voters should pick him over Cruz because he’s “more capable” to lead the country and that he gets along with people “much better” than Cruz.

Mr Trump and Mr Cruz have also been trading barbs in recorded statements and on Twitter, prompting speculation that an unofficial pact between the two men has unravelled. But she said his bluntness could hurt him with other voters.
