Iowa poll: Trump builds on lead over Cruz
Trump has declared that because of what he calls unfair treatment by the network hosting the debate, Fox News Channel, he’ll have his own event at the very same time about two miles away at Drake University.

With just five days before the first vote in the United States presidential nominations process in Iowa, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump is dominating the airwaves.
The reality TV star has long threatened to boycott the debates, questioning whether he should be seeking a fee from the networks because of the amount of advertising money they made from the Trump- driven ratings.
Fox responded by accusing Trump of “viciously attacking” Kelly, threatening her and spending four days trying to get her removed.
“I don’t like being taken advantage of, in this case I was being taken advantage of by Fox [News]”, he added.
It also follows an interview Trump gave with CNN on Monday, during which he accused FOX’s debate moderator Megyn Kelly of “bias” and treating him “unfairly” in the past. “That’s a pretty heavy thing, but I’m pretty sure you’re up to it”, Perry said.
“Donald Trump is not a conservative”, one of the ads charges before looping in archival footage of the billionaire businessman from 1999, declaring: “I am pro-choice in every respect”.
Trump, who has called Kelly a “lightweight” and biased, told reporters at an Iowa press conference Wednesday night that he would be holding a fundraising event in Iowa at the same time as the debate to benefit veterans and wounded soldiers instead.
Fox and its chief executive Roger Ailes “think they can toy with him, but Mr Trump doesn’t play games”, the campaign said. (Hasn’t Bill learned by now that Donald – like Tom Petty – “won’t back down”?) And enough about Megyn Kelly, whose metastasizing ego is starting to make her resemble a cable news version of the ambitious Eve Harrington in Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s All About Eve. I think she is highly overrated.
The debate questions will cover a wide array of topics, and moderators at this advanced stage of the campaign will attempt to find “unplowed ground” among the candidates, he said.
While earlier debates have been instrumental in the rise and fall of several GOP candidates, they have had minimal apparent impact on Trump’s standing.
Cruz’s campaign said a space had been reserved at the Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City for a debate to take place at 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday morning, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski predicted on “Good Morning America” that “the American people will tune in” for Trump’s alternative event “because they want to support that”.
Cruz hit out at his rival, saying on the Mark Levin radio show that “Donald Trump is now afraid to appear on the debate stage”.
Rival Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, said Trump’s snub would prove a mistake.
So while Bernie Sanders explicitly says he’s “not actively involved with organized religion”, it’s Trump with his blatant attempts to convince people he’s Christian who is thought of as the least religious.

Cruz said Trump lacks the humility and judgment to be the next president, and said the country has spent seven years with a “narcissitic, self-involved” president for seven years, and shouldn’t elect another. Is it possible to hurt Trump with his decision to sit it out, or do they risk falling into a rabbit hole chasing after one of Trump’s gold-plated shiny objects?
