For the 10th time in Texas Tech football history, the Texas Tech offense had more than 700 yards offensively in a game, en route to a 66-24 victory against Iowa State.

Patrick Mahomes led the way last time out for the Red Raiders, connecting for 415 passing enclosures, but failing to make the victory in a 63-35 loss to the Red Raiders at AT&T Stadium. Iowa State’s quarterback passed for 139 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
Tevin Madison intercepted Sam Richardson on Iowa State’s opening possession and Texas Tech’s offense answered by putting together a scoring drive capped by a 7-yard touchdown run from senior DeAndre Washington. Last year he took off for a career-high 186 yards and a score in the win over the Cyclones, and tore them up for 88 yards two years ago and 50 as a freshman. ISU returns home next week to face 2nd ranked TCU, kickoff set for 6pm at Jack Trice. Ian Sadler and Devin Lauderdale, who have combined for five TDs and 527 yards, did not play.
“I think everybody is just very frustrated and disappointed in themselves because they know that we could have played a lot better and that, I mean, we lost to a good team today, but we also didn’t play as well as our potential”, he said.
Entering the locker room after the second quarter, Tech was up over Cyclones 38-21 and would only allow three more points in the third quarter. But if we protect the ball, we’ll be in every game.
“You never want to win a game, 7-3”.
After struggling to get the running game going the first two games of the season, the Cyclones appear to have found an identity, with three straight games of 200 or more rushing yards for the first time since 2009, when the Cyclones did it in five consecutive weeks.
Iowa State stayed within striking distance.
There should be no reason why receivers Zach Austin, Tony Brown, Jonathan Giles and Cameron Batson among others should play with anything less than full enthusiasm.
The Red Raider pass offense was the best in the country coming into the game but their receiving corps has thinned due to injuries.
Mahomes completed 33 of 46 passes with no interceptions. And today is one of the few remaining games in which Texas Tech will be favored.

Texas Tech’s offense functions at its highest efficiency when rattling off plays of 10 or more yards. Grant cut back to the middle of the field and used at least two blockers to get into the end zone.
