Allen ended up with 103 stitches and a reputation as a monster.

Iowa State tight end Chase Allen likely will have a better story than most of his fellow Cyclones incoming freshmen come camp.

Allen told the Springfield News-Leader newspaper that he landed on the car’s windshield and had broken glass in his back.

The accident happened July 21. He was taken to the emergency room and had 103 stitches put in his back after colliding with the windshield of the auto.

“The coaches were there with me in the E.R., and I’ll be cleared when the stitches heal up”.

He was taken to the hospital by Iowa State coaches and told the paper he’s grateful that it could have been “so much worse”.

Allen was expected to compete for playing time before the auto crash. Don’t expect a guy to be shy about going over the middle after he’s already walked away from a vehicle accident. He also logged 92 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks, good enough for all-state status and to lead Nixa in tackling. His father, Terry Allen, was an assistant football coach at Iowa State from 2002-05.
