The camera in the S7 Edge is the same as in the regular S7, so takes the same dip in megapixels from 16MP to 12MP, but there’s much more to it than that.
The smartphones look very similar to the a year ago models, but there are certain refinements in the design as the back is now more curvy and the camera hump has gone down. But with the announcement of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, it seems Samsung is appealing to fans once again, at least with the addition of a microSD slot. Samsung Electronics said that the Galaxy S7 is the first smartphone in the world to apply dual pixel image sensor technology.
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge feature a 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch QHD display. A wide-aperture f/1.7 lens paired with a lower MP helps the device in low-light shooting, plus you can shoot in the rain due to the phone’s water-resistant IP68 build. The S7 Edge also has a 5.5 inch screen (like the iPhone Plus), so it’s almost a half an inch bigger than last year’s model. Tests revealed that each new premium smartphone launched by Samsung had significant improvements in their displays.
Apart from smartphones, VR is a big focus at the show this week with just about every big smartphone maker with a related product coming this year.

Optus has listed both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and put up a registration page for customers. The SG7 has curved and more rounded edges, giving users a better grip. As only a section of screen lights up, it doesn’t take a toll on the battery life, Samsung claims. The Australian carrier will offer both the handsets in Black, Silver and Gold colour options with pre-orders starting on February 26 at 12:01AM AEDT.
