IPhone SE: Apple launches €499 four-inch phone set for May release

After Apple announced that it would launch the new iPhone SE in India early April, Redington and Beetel Teletech – Apple’s distributors in India – in seperate press notes revealed the India launch date for the new iPhone. Think of it as a cousin to the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

The 16GB version costs US$399, a full $250 cheaper than the iPhone 6S and more affordable than Samsung’s Galaxy A7 and Xiaomi’s Mi5.

Trade-up plans can get the new model for as low as $10 a month for the same two-year contract.

iPhone introduces its SE o ering the same features as the 6S but in a smaller four-inch display.

Iphone SE has been fitted with A9 processor that is similar to the one used in 6s. SE processor includes the same M9 motion processor that powers features like accelerometer and Siri.

Both the iPhone SE and 9.7-inch iPad Pro are available to order now from Apple (including the Apple Store app) and its partners in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands, and the US. This obviously translates to a significantly slow authentication when compared to the iPhone 6s or for that matter the predecessor iPhone 6. There’s also a SIM-free (unlocked) version. It lacks a pressure-sensitive 3D Touch display that is only available in 6s. If you can deal with the camera bump on the back of the device, you’re in for a much better picture-taking experience, with an f/2.2 aperture, 63-megapixel panoramas and True Tone flash.

Deliveries on orders placed today are expected to begin on March 31, which is also the day when the two devices will be available for in-store purchase.
