Russia’s Vnesheconombank, Russia’s Export Insurance Agency EXIAR and Iran’s Central Bank signed a memorandum of understanding to promote investment activities, guarantee support, export financing and trade ties. Later in talks with President Hassan Rouhani, Putin defended his policy of airstrikes against what he called “Syrian terrorist targets”.
Russia, which has built Iran’s only functioning nuclear reactor in the southern city of Bushehr, signed an agreement with Iran previous year to establish as many as eight more.
“I hope that a real broad worldwide coalition will be finally formed to become a coordinated, powerful force, and, in particular, will support actions of the Russian military conducting successful operations against terrorist groups and structures in Syria”, Putin said as he accepted credentials of ambassadors from 15 countries in the Kremlin.
In this meeting which lasted approximately two hours, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution described Mr. Putin as an outstanding personality in today’s world and expressed his thanks for the Russian efforts on the nuclear issue.
“No one from the outside can and no one should impose upon the Syrian people any sort of form of rule, or impose who personally should run this”, Putin said during the meeting with Khamenei, as shown on Russian Federation state television.
“This threat should be neutralised wisely and with closer interaction”, he was quoted as saying in a statement, meaning cooperation with Russian Federation.
Al-Moallem, who is also the foreign and expatriates minister, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s dreams in northwest Syria were shattered by the Assad army’s progress on the ground.
The civil war in Syria has drawn attention from leaders across the globe. Assad’s fate will likely dominate the agenda. However, the Russian Defense Ministry has said that the Su-24M flew over Syria and the air space was violated by the Turkish plane that attacked Russia’s bomber.

But as before, the parties continued to disagree on the future of Assad as that process unfolds, and at his meeting with Putin, Khamenei slammed the USA and its allies for wanting Assad to go. Russia, on the other hand, is mostly interested in retaining strong state institutions and in preserving the presence of its navy in the Mediterranean. Putin, whose comments were published on his official website, also said: “We will continue mutually beneficial cooperation in nuclear energy”.
