IRAN: Ex-bodyguard for Ahmadinejad killed in Syria fight

The comments come as three IRGC members have been killed in the fight against Takfiri terrorists in Syria over the past two days.

Iran’s state-run media reported Saturday that eight Iranian commanders have been killed in Syria this week, including Brigadier General Reza Khavari of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who was killed in battle against rebel forces.

A bodyguard for former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been killed in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, Tehran’s state media reported. “Reports of the martyrdom of 15 people are wrong”, the IRGC’s spokesman said, according to Tasnim news agency.

“Abdollah Bagheri Niaraki and Karimi were martyred in Syria while protecting a religious site near Aleppo”.

This is not the first time Iran has announced the death of volunteer members of this brigade.

Iran’s regime is a longtime ally of Syrian dictator Bashar Assad, and has provided economic and military backing throughout the uprising and subsequent civil war.

He said the guards’ presence in Syria “has increased since the recent field developments” in the conflict-torn country but gave no further details. He was in Syria serving as a military adviser to the nation’s troops, the semiofficial FARS news agency says.

Back on October 8, senior IRGC commander Major General Hossein Hamedani was martyred while in an advisory mission in Syria.
