Iran: No Kerry-Zarif phone talk on Tehran’s recent missile tests

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) successfully test-fired two more ballistic missiles on Wednesday as part of military drills to assess their capabilities.

State media reported that the two Qadr H and Qadri F missiles were capable of hitting targets 1,400km (870 miles) away.

U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner on Tuesday said that Washington would review the reported tests and raise them in the U.N. Security Council to seek an “appropriate response” if they are confirmed, Reuters reported.

Ban said it was up to the UN Security Council to determine whether this was in violation of resolutions banning the development of ballistic missile technology capable of delivering a nuclear warhead.

“Far from pushing Iran to a more moderate engagement with its neighbors, this nuclear deal is enabling Iran’s aggression and terrorist activities”, McCarthy said in a statement. Tests on Tuesday drew a threat of new sanctions from the United States.

“The missiles fired today are the results of sanctions”.

The tests are seen as a challenge to a United Nations resolution and the 2015 nuclear deal under which Tehran agreed to curb its atomic program in exchange for relief from economic sanctions.

The analyst also looked at other reasons that according to him have contributed to Iran’s test-firing of the missiles.

“Iran says its missiles aren’t designed for nuclear weapons”.

The nuclear deal does not directly address missile restrictions.

Iran’s recent missile test has drawn condemnation from the United States, which threatened to impose new sanctions on the Middle Eastern country if it continues with these experiments.

News agencies Fars and Tasnim, both close to the Guards, said the phrase “Israel must be wiped off the face of Earth” was inscribed in Hebrew on the missiles, recalling a quote by the late revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his USA counterpart John Kerry have not discussed Iran’s missile tests, a source told Iran’s Students News Agency ISNA on Thursday.

“We expect this professional level of reporting to continue in the future”, the official said.
