“The security and peace of the Gulf is of serious strategic importance to Iran“.

Iran and six world powers – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States – signed a historic nuclear deal in July to imposes limits on the Iranian nuclear program in return for lifting of economic sanctions.
News, citing unnamed US military officials, said the Guards were conducting a live-fire exercise and the USA aircraft carrier came within about 1,500 meters of a rocket.
On Thursday, foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari said Iran would “respond to any interventionist measure by the USA against its defense”, which has “no connection” to the nuclear deal.
The US commander added that Iranian ships had announced over maritime radio their intention to carry out the test 23 minutes before the rockets were fired.
U.S. officials told NBC News that the Truman was being escorted through the strait by a United States destroyer.
But Saturday’s incident brought no immediate response from Iranian officials or media, while French authorities downplayed its danger.
The test occurred on Saturday as two U.S ships – the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and the USS Bulkeley destroyer – were in the area, along with a French frigate, said Cmdr.
Since this summer’s nuclear deal, Iran has tested missiles, another mover criticized by US officials.
“Firing weapons so close to passing coalition ships and commercial traffic within an internationally recognized maritime traffic lane is unsafe, unprofessional and inconsistent with global maritime law”, Stephens said.
The navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps has long focused on what it calls “asymmetric warfare” in the Strait of Hormuz, a combination of fast boats and missiles to challenge the larger vessels of adversaries.
Some U.S. critics of the deal have said the Iran cannot be trusted to comply – however proponents of the deal say Iran’s actions can be verified and that progress seems to be on track.
USA and Iranian forces clashed in the Strait of Hormuz in the 1980s, during the Iran-Iraq war.

Sharif said in comments on Guard’s website that its navy “had no drills in the Strait of Hormuz over the past week”.
