Iran Nuclear Deal Faces Triple Threat in Congress on Anniversary
Gary Peters (D-Mich.), called on Obama to pressure the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which performs inspections on suspected Iranian nuclear sites, to release more information from its inspections.

“It is precisely for these reasons that APN and our supporters across the US for years worked in support of a diplomatic solution to the challenge posed by Iran’s nuclear program”.
President Barack Obama marked the anniversary of the landmark nuclear deal with Iran on Thursday by vowing that the United States and its partners will uphold their commitments as long as Iran abides by the pact.
Indeed, congressional Republicans did everything they could think of – including taking the extraordinary step of trying to sabotage American foreign policy while negotiations were still underway – to derail the agreement.
Obama said in a statement Thursday that the deal has succeeded in rolling back Iran’s nuclear program, “avoiding further conflict and making us safer”.
The German domestic intelligence report also stated “a further increase in the already considerable procurement efforts in connection with Iran’s ambitious missile technology program which could among other things potentially serve to deliver nuclear weapons”. And it spelled out the West’s obligations to end many financial, trade and oil sanctions that had battered Iran’s economy. Iran immediately announced a lucrative deal with European plane maker Airbus, but most global banks and manufacturers have stayed away, fearful of incurring USA prosecution or fines.
“The JCPOA only dealt with Iran’s nuclear program, not its extremist ideology, support of terrorism, suppression of its people’s human rights or regional aggression”, the former senator told The Algemeiner.
The controversial Iran nuclear deal is developing cracks.
“Why are we giving the seal of approval to Iran’s heavy water production?” asked Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. While the Iranians recouped some $100 billion in frozen assets overseas, the USA says they’ve only brought a fraction of that home.
Channels for discussion created by seeking the agreement have allowed the U.S.to pursue other concerns with Tehran, including its activities in Syria and Yemen, he said.
Asked if Iran had oversold the deal to its people, Baeidinejad said: “We knew exactly what was agreed upon in the deal and what was not”.
“The problem could reappear in 15 years with Iran in a much better economic situation”, Frank told The Media Line.
The heavy water measure is the first of three bills targeting the seven-nation nuclear pact that are expected to clear the chamber before Congress departs Washington for a lengthy summer recess. While they do not explicitly violate the nuclear deal, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said last week that the missile tests were not in the spirit of the deal.

Responding to a question on missile program, he said Iran’s missile capability is at the service of the country’s national interests and it has fully been defined based on defensive goals and is an important instrument to defend Iran’s territorial integrity and a pillar of power in the region.
