Iran Nuclear Deal: House Votes Against Controversial Agreement As Dozens Of

“We firmly believe that the most effective way…to protect USA national security and that of our allies and friends is to ensure that the tough-minded diplomacy has a chance to succeed before considering the more costly risks and alternatives”, said Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

It’s an improbable win by Obama in the face of staunch opposition from the state of Israel and Republicans in Washington and on the presidential campaign trail.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., vowed to bring the legislation up again next week, but any change in outcome is extremely unlikely.

Senate Democrats rallied behind President Obama’s plan to lift sanctions on Iran in return for its promises to slow down its nuclear program.

San Bernardino County Republican Paul Cook said that President Obamas Iranian Nuclear Agreement is ‘badly flawed.

While opposition to the nuclear agreement with Iran was already dealt a huge blow in the Senate, House Republicans continued to fight against the controversial deal with a series of votes over the past two days.

A lawsuit “is an option that’s very possible“, House Speaker John Boehner said September 11 after Democrats successfully blocked the Senate from voting on the deal.

All 42 of the Senate votes not to advance the measure on Thursday were from Democrats or independents who normally vote with them. But the House on Friday began a series of maneuvers to highlight their extreme displeasure with the deal.

This means the legislation aimed at derailing the agreement is essentially dead, and that the JCPOA will now take effect and a veto showdown between the Republican-dominated Congress and the Obama administration is not necessary.

The big issue that Mr. Zeldin and many other Conservative Republicans are concerned with is President Obama’s repeated statement that the deal is not based on trust, but it is based on verification.

Congress can not review an agreement without having access to everything including the fine print. We need to see all the secret side deals”, said Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas.

Before the vote, House lawmakers passed two resolutions rebuking Obama on the deal.

They also maintained that the Obama administration was not able meet the requirements of a congressional review period on the deal by failing to disclose what “side deals” it made with Iran.

On Friday, the House was expected to vote on a measure to approve the Iran deal, which would likely fail, and another to prevent the lifting of sanctions until January 21, 2017, after a new president is in the White House.
