Iran’s Parliament Speaker Says Russia Continues To Use Iranian Base
The flights of Russian warplanes from the Iranian airbase in Hamedan have not been suspended, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on August 23, TASS reports.

Iran showed Russian Federation that it needs to play by its rulebook, no matter how powerful and influential they are.
But Ghasemi pointed at a possibility of reaching another agreement with Russian Federation in the future if circumstances warrented.
“Further use of the Hamadan air base in the Islamic Republic of Iran by the Russian Aerospace Forces will be carried out on the basis of mutual agreements to fight terrorism and depending on the prevailing circumstances in Syria”, Konashenkov said.
Last week for the first time ever, Russia’s military used an airfield in Iran to attack terrorists in Syria.
Iran and Russian Federation are key backers of Syrian President Bashar Assad, but Tehran has remained relatively guarded about its precise involvement in the conflict.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), now controlling parts of it.
The state-run IRNA news agency quotes Larijani as criticizing Iranian Defense Minister Gen. Hossein Dehghan for not “speaking properly” to lawmakers’ concerns.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, also confirmed the halt and told reporters on Monday that Russian Federation has stopped using the Iranian air base for strikes in Syria. It said it was looking into whether the move was a violation of UN Security Council resolution 2231, which forbids the supply, sale and transfer of combat aircraft to Iran.

However, Tehran has not put any military bases in the country at the disposal of Russia, Larijani’s words came as a reaction to Monday remarks of Foreign Ministry spokesman who said that Russia had stopped using Iranian Hamedan airbase for carrying out operations against militants in Syria.
