The U.S. administration has long argued that the nuclear deal does not cover other elements of Iran’s allegedly bad behavior and that Washington will continue to press Iran to change its ways and punish it when necessary.
“The US sanctions against Iran’s ballistic missile program… have no legal or moral legitimacy”, Reuters cited Ansari as saying in a televised news conference.
The implementation of missile development program by Iran is not related to nuclear in any way, so it does not affect the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program reached last July, the head of the Foreign Ministry Mohammad Javad Zarif said.
He spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos before taking part in a debate focusing on the Islamic Republic.
Ayatollah Khamenei assessed both elections as very crucial and as a competitive national event; “in this competition, win and loss would not be any different, since in any situation, the ultimate victor will be Iranian nation; however, the first important prerequisite for a healthy election is a high and flamboyant turnout in ballot boxes, and with God’s blessings, we will have such promising turnout”, he asserted.
On Sunday, the US Treasury Department sanctioned 11 entities and individuals, including six Iranians and one Chinese citizen, over their involvement in procurement on behalf of Iran’s ballistic missile program.
The Supreme Leader, who had the final say on Tehran’s nuclear negotiations, welcomed the lifting of sanctions under the deal, but said that was “not enough for boosting the economy and improving people’s lives”, according to the letter published by the IRNA news agency. “The Iranian missile program is a legitimate defense program”, Zarif said.
“We [the United States and Iran] don’t have ties”, Zarif said. “So you have a difference of views among various political actors, among various parts of the population”. The U.S. also believes there was a November missile test.
“We have deals that are being worked out with Airbus – all sorts of companies from nuclear technology companies, to irrigation, green energy … a whole range of them”, he said, without elaborating.
