Iran seeks to limit diplomatic fall-out from Saudi embassy attacks

Iran’s Interior Minister has told reporters storming Saudi embassy in Tehran has been organized by covert Saudi-affiliated hands.

Tensions between revolutionary, mainly Shi’ite Iran and Saudi Arabia’s conservative Sunni monarchy have run high for years as they backed opposing forces in wars and political conflicts across the Middle East, usually along sectarian lines.

In addition, Qatar recalled its ambassador to Iran after its ally Saudi Arabia cut ties with Tehran following attacks on Saudi missions by Iranian protesters.

A long list of Arab countries such as Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, together with Islamic countries Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan and Gulf Arab and African states were mentioned.

The council called on the worldwide community-all countries and regional and global bodies and organizations-to take serious and effective steps to prevent such attacks on all diplomatic missions in Iran.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir had similarly strong comments for Iran Sunday, saying Tehran will “face the rejection of Arab countries” if it continues to support sectarian aggression, terror and violence.
