Iran test-fires missiles reportedly stamped with threat against Israel

On Wednesday, the IRGC fired two new ballistic missiles from the northern part of the country that hit the southeastern part, traveling a distance of 870 miles.

“The decision bars Iran from firing missiles that have the capability to carry a nuclear warhead – which are precisely the missiles they fired”.

At the United Nations, there is likely to be a debate about whether Iran is still required to abide by the ballistic missile test ban under council resolutions. “Iran will not turn into Yemen, Iraq or Syria”, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh told state TV on late Wednesday, referring to a series of Middle East countries consumed with internal conflicts or outright civil war.

Some western media outlets reported that Kerry called on Zarif on March 9 to protest Tehran’s latest round of ballistic missile tests.

In January 2016, Washington imposed sanctions against individuals and businesses over another missile test carried out by Iran in October past year, but Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said on state television this week that additional sanctions would mean further development of the missile program to them.

Fars News Agency reported Tuesday that the Iranian regime launched two Qadr H missiles in the country’s Alborz mountain range that landed over 1,000 kilometers away in the Sea of Oman.

“If our interests are not met under the nuclear deal, there will be no reason for us to continue”, Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, warned in Tehran.

Iranian officials said the missile tests were not in violation of the nuclear deal, which led to lifting of sanctions in January. “Iran should face sanctions for these activities, and the worldwide community must demonstrate that Iran’s threats toward Israel will not be tolerated”. During his visit in Israel, Biden tried to assure those skeptical of the nuclear deal that if Iran violated the terms of the agreement, there would be consequences. It quoted an IRGC officer as saying: “Some take photos with the French Airbus, but we take photos with native Iranian products”.

However, Ansari said the test-firing “did not defy the Security Council resolution” and added that Iran will continue its missile program.

Joe Biden, the US Vice President, told a news conference in Jerusalem: “We are united in the belief that a nuclear armed Iran is absolutely an unacceptable threat to Israel to the region and to the United States”.

A US State Department spokesman claimed on Wednesday that the two sides had discussed the issue earlier in the day.
