Meanwhile, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said in a statement that security forces had recently foiled several bombing plots by Takfiri-Wahabi groups in Tehran and several other provinces.
Ammunition and bombs were also seized, according to the information attributed to the country’s Intelligence Ministry.
A “Takriri” is a derogatory term used to describe a Muslim who accuses another Muslim of being a non-believer, while Wahhabism is a strict form of Sunni Islam, with followers that include ISIS and al Qaeda.
National Security Council secretary Ali Shamkhani was quoted by the ISNA news agency on Sunday as saying that Iranian security forces had arrested members of a network that was planning suicide bombings in Tehran during Ramadan.
Iran is now helping both the Syrian and Iraqi governments battle the jihadist group, Islamic State (IS), which considers Shias to be infidels for their veneration of the Prophet Muhammad’s family and other beliefs and practices.
IRNA, however, called those involved in the plot “Wahhabi takfiris” in its report in Farsi on the arrests.

Iranian forces clashed with militants last week on the country’s northwestern and southeastern borders, leaving several dead. It suffered its worst attack in 28 June, 1981, when a blast at the ruling Islamic Republican Party’s central headquarters in Tehran killed at least 72 people, including the party’s leader, four government ministers, eight deputy ministers and 23 parliament members.
